TCV Bylakuppe as being one of the largest chain boarding schools for destitute Tibetan children in exile, the school has produced number of fine academicians, athletes, musicians, sportsmen and women over the years since its inception in 1980.  Tharchin GoenPo is one of the popular soccer [football] players graduated from this school in southern shi-chak.  Growing up in a boarding school, he excelled in numerous sports, but soccer was his passion as a young boy. He captained school team and competed in numerous interschool south zone and central zone competitions and won number of championships for his school. Back then, he was a popular high school soccer player.

After graduating high school, he joined St. Aloysius College in Mangalore for undergraduate studies and represented the college soccer team for three years, during which he represented college in number intercollege tournaments in south India and even represented Mangalore district football team for Dasara Cup held in Mysore.

In addition, he was selected for the Mangalore University Football team and played two consecutive years for the team and became the first player of Tibetan origin to play for the University team. He represented Mangalore University team in All India Inter-university football tournaments for two years.

In 2023, a soccer tournament was held in southern shi-chak amongst the whole of Bylakuppe Shichak, Gullathala, Bangalore, Mysore, Kollegal and Mangalore to form a championship team for GCM tournament, a Southern Stars FC was born. He was one of the first players selected for the team. The same year after the GCM tournament, he was called up for the Tibetan National training camp which unfortunately coincided with his master’s studies admission time and thus he could not fully participate. He represented Southern Stars in GCM tournament for wo consecutive years and many of these teammates went on to play for the Tibetan National team. His played his last competitive soccer in 2004. Since then, his furthers’ studies took precedence, yet his passion for soccer remained his heart and waiting for another moment to rekindle another life.

In late 2008 he got immigrated to Canada through a family reunion. Like all immigrants, he too had to redo his furthers studies. He pursued Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work studies at York University, Toronto. Currently, he works as one of the Social Housing managers for a charity who spearheads in promoting a community centered affordable housing services, a unique and innovative model serving vulnerable individuals, families, and disproportionately impacted communities in the downtown core Toronto.

Additionally, he has started SNOWLIONS Ontario FC, a grassroot soccer club along with four other dedicated parents. The club was first born as SAUGA Snowlions through his three children whom he has been training soccer since they were four years old. Both his older daughter and son are playing in U10 rep teams with a local soccer club in Mississauga. As time passed, his friends brought their children to train along with his children, and the rest is history.

Today SNOWLIONS ON FC is the only formally established, privately owned and an incorporated soccer club within Tibetan diaspora in Toronto GTA centred around children. The club was formed in 2019 and is now turning four years old. The club runs year-round intensive soccer training for children whose ranges from 5 to 15 years old and there are over 85 registered players. In a year or two, the club will join a district soccer league to open a door of opportunities for the talented and committed players. Today, the club is gradually transforming and embracing the spirit of inclusivity and equal opportunity for children from all backgrounds. This is one of the first steps taken towards the mission of accrediting with District Soccer Association and joining the local soccer league thereafter.
