The famous Buddhist mantra ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུཾ། OM MANI PADME HUM is a powerful and revered mantra in Tibetan Buddhism. It is often recited during meditation or as a prayer in order to invoke the blessings and compassion of Chenrezig, the Lord Avalokiteshvara, who is the embodiment of compassion in Tibetan Buddhism.

The mantra is composed of six syllables, each with a specific meaning. “OM” is the combination of three letters- A, U & M- representing the body, speech, and mind of Buddha. “Mani” is the Jewel representing the bodhicitta, which is the altruistic intention to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. “Padme” is the Lotus representing the wisdom of emptiness, which is a profound understanding of the true nature of reality. “HUM” is the blessings invoked to obtain the body, speech, and mind of Buddha through the proper practices of the combination of bodhicitta and wisdom of emptiness.

Chanting the mantra is believed to purify negative karma, promote inner peace and compassion, and help one progress on the path to enlightenment. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and a revered figure worldwide, is considered to be an embodiment of Chenrezig and often recites the mantra during his teachings and public appearances.

Overall, OM MANI PADME HUM is a powerful and meaningful mantra that carries profound spiritual significance in Tibetan Buddhism.
